New Competitive Environment for Console Players
With the launch of Season 18, Overwatch 2 has introduced native mouse and keyboard support for console players. This feature allows players who prefer these peripherals to join a new competitive environment, enhancing their gameplay experience and skill testing. Console players opting for mouse and keyboard will be placed in a dedicated matchmaking pool, separate from those using traditional controllers.
Matchmaking Pools Explained
Players using mouse and keyboard on consoles will be prompted to join the newly designated Mouse and Keyboard Pool. This pool will utilize its own matchmaking rating (MMR) and skill ratings, distinct from the Controller Pool. Players can switch between pools in the Gameplay Options, but must accept the switch to use their mouse and keyboard effectively in matches.
Addressing Cheating with New Technology
To maintain competitive integrity, Blizzard has implemented stricter measures against players using unapproved peripherals. The introduction of mouse and keyboard support necessitates a crackdown on those who previously exploited third-party devices for an unfair advantage. Blizzard has reported over 23,000 actions taken against such players and is now deploying advanced technology to detect and penalize users of unapproved peripherals more effectively.
