Addressing Player Concerns
The Overwatch team has taken player feedback seriously, particularly regarding the frustrations experienced in Stadium mode. Players expressed that leavers negatively impacted their gaming experience, and close losses felt particularly disheartening, especially when no rewards were given for their efforts. In response, the developers have introduced several quality of life changes aimed at improving the overall experience.
Changes to Stadium Points
Starting in Season 18, players will experience a reduction in the number of Stadium Points (SP) lost when a teammate leaves the match. This adjustment aims to mitigate the frustration that often accompanies unexpected departures from the game. Conversely, players on the opposing team will still receive the full amount of SP for their victory, ensuring that they are rewarded for their performance regardless of the circumstances.
Rewards for Close Matches
In addition to the changes regarding leavers, players will now receive SP for each round won in a close match, even if the overall match results in a loss. This new system is designed to acknowledge the effort players put into competitive matches, particularly in lengthy encounters that may have felt unrewarding in the past. However, it's important to note that this reward system will cease at All-Star and Legend ranks, although all players will still earn Competitive Points for their participation.
Enhanced Gameplay Experience
To further enhance the gameplay experience, the Overwatch team has recognized that many new players were unaware of the ability to switch between first-person and third-person perspectives in Stadium mode. To address this, a one-time banner will now appear for new players, guiding them on how to make this choice. Additionally, a new footer shortcut has been added to the Hero Select menu, allowing for quicker access to perspective options, thereby improving the overall user experience.
