Ultimatum puts Vendetta's global threat at the center of Overwatch's story
The illustrated short story and Chiara Preziosi's narrated edition raise the stakes ahead of the Reign of Talon finale.
A broadcast with a deadline inside the fiction
Blizzard released Ultimatum on September 24, an illustrated prose story written by Andrew Robinson with art by Hannah Templer. A narrated Story Time edition features Vendetta's voice actor, Chiara Preziosi. The official page links both ways to experience the story.
Vendetta addresses the world through a broadcast, linking her personal losses to a demand for submission. She invokes Talon's forces and enhanced Gladiators, then threatens leaders with a weapon she says can disable entire continents. The 48-hour ultimatum belongs to the fictional narrative, not to an in-game event countdown or a real-world deadline for players.
What changes the narrative stakes
The story moves the conflict beyond a private confrontation. Its public demand forces the question of how governments and Overwatch respond to an explicitly global threat. Vendetta's claims are also her own rhetoric; readers should not mistake everything a villain asserts about her strength for an independent assessment of what every other faction can do.
That distinction leaves room for uncertainty heading into the season finale. The threat establishes pressure without revealing every response or proving that the demanded outcome happens. Read the official short story or listen to the credited narration for the full sequence. The header artwork is an original interpretation of a broadcast setting, not one of Templer's published illustrations.
