Overview of OWCS 2025 Stage 1
The Overwatch Champions Series (OWCS) is set to begin its 2025 Season with significant changes aimed at enhancing the competitive experience. The new format will feature four regions: North America, EMEA, Asia, and China. Each region will start with an Open Qualifier to determine the teams that will advance to the Regular Season.
Hero Bans Implementation
A notable addition for Stage 1 is the introduction of Hero Bans. Each team will select one hero to be banned from play on a per-map basis, with specific rules governing the bans. For instance, if one team bans a tank hero, the opposing team must choose a hero from a different role to ban on that map. This strategy is expected to add a new layer of complexity to the matches.
Path to Champions Clash
Following the Regular Season, the top teams from each region will compete in a double-elimination bracket. The best performers will earn spots in the live Champions Clash event in Hangzhou, China. This new structure aims to create a more dynamic and competitive environment for both players and fans, culminating in a thrilling showdown at the Champions Clash.
Partner Teams and Competitive Landscape
The OWCS 2025 Season will also feature nine Partner Teams across North America, EMEA, and Asia. These teams will receive a portion of the proceeds from in-game Team packs, which include branded cosmetics for fans. Notable Partner Teams include Gen.G, Twisted Minds, and Crazy Raccoon, each bringing a rich competitive history and strong rosters into the season.
