Overview of Overwatch: Classic
Blizzard Entertainment has announced the Overwatch: Classic event, which will allow players to experience the game with heroes' original abilities. This nostalgic return to the roots of Overwatch is set to launch in November 2024, and it promises to bring back the gameplay mechanics that fans remember from the game's initial release.
Hero Abilities Reverted to Original Forms
In Overwatch: Classic, players will find that heroes are grouped into their original classes, but they are not restricted to specific roles during matches. Notably, the event will initially allow players to select multiple instances of the same hero, a feature reminiscent of the game's early days. After a few days, the game will transition to enforce single hero limits.
Each hero will also see their Ultimate abilities charge at a faster rate compared to Overwatch 2, with adjustments made to health pools, damage outputs, and projectile sizes to reflect their original states.
Highlighted Changes for Key Heroes
Several heroes will see significant changes in their abilities. For example, Cassidy's Flashbang will immobilize enemies for a few seconds, and his Deadeye can be canceled to conserve Ultimate charge. Genji's Dragonblade will allow for longer attack duration, while Pharah's Rocket Launcher will deal increased splash damage, enhancing her aerial combat capabilities.
Reaper's The Reaping passive will return to its original form, allowing him to collect health from defeated enemies. Soldier: 76 will see his Heavy Pulse Rifle adjusted for no recoil, although it will deal less damage per shot.
