Enhancements to Map Voting
With the upcoming Season 2, Overwatch is set to implement significant changes to the map voting system in both Quick Play and Competitive modes. One of the most notable adjustments is the introduction of a new rule regarding competitive progression on new or reworked maps. Players will now lose less competitive progress if they do not secure a victory on these maps, encouraging players to engage with new content without the fear of severe penalties.
Majority Voting System
Another key improvement is the implementation of a majority voting system. In instances where a clear majority of players in the lobby select a specific map, that map will automatically be chosen for the match. This change aims to reduce instances where one player’s choice overrides the preferences of the majority, thereby enhancing the overall experience for players who want to play maps they enjoy.
New Features for Map Selection
Additionally, a 'Random Map' button will be introduced, allowing players to opt for a map that is not among the three presented options. This feature is designed to provide more flexibility in map selection, particularly in Quick Play. Furthermore, players will now see icons indicating whether they are playing Attack or Defense during the map voting phase, which can influence their map preferences.
Future Improvements on Hero Bans
Looking ahead, Overwatch is also focusing on refining the Hero Ban system. Developers are exploring ways to enhance player input during the ban phase, potentially allowing for more informed decisions. Discussions are underway regarding the introduction of a fifth ban, termed a 'Lobby Ban,' which could consider votes from both teams and bypass the current role-limit rule.
