The announced redesign

Roadhog is receiving a major rework with Season 5. Blizzard included him in the September 12 opening-ceremony announcement, alongside Sombra's redesign and Doctrine's arrival. The hero deep-dive panel supplied an early look at the direction, but the announcement is not the same thing as final retail patch notes.

That is particularly important for a hero whose reputation often gets reduced to a single hook interaction. A change in weapon behavior, defensive tools or follow-up timing can alter the whole engagement even if the recognizable hook remains part of the discussion. One short clip cannot establish every breakpoint.

What a useful comparison should measure

When the rework reaches live play, test whether Roadhog can create space, survive the approach and convert an opening without abandoning his team. Raw burst damage is only one of those tests. A tank can lose a familiar combo and still gain a different way to pressure an objective, or gain an impressive tool while remaining vulnerable in other situations.

We are not presenting early demonstration values as settled launch numbers. Season 5 is scheduled for October 6, and the linked announcement and panel are the sources for this preseason report. The scrapyard equipment in the accompanying artwork is illustrative; it should not be used as a diagram of the final ability or as evidence of an unannounced cosmetic.
