Overview of the Reworks

The Flashpoint maps, New Junk City and Suravasa, are set to undergo significant reworks in the upcoming Season 17 mid-cycle patch for Overwatch 2. The development team aims to enhance the overall gameplay experience by making these maps more navigable and competitive while retaining their unique characteristics. The changes are designed to address player feedback and improve the overall flow of gameplay.

Key Improvements to Suravasa

Suravasa will see major readability enhancements, including the lowering of large blockers to improve sightlines and reduce confusion. New art elements and lighting will be added near entrances to guide players more effectively. Additionally, the layout will be streamlined by removing unused side paths and clutter, making navigation smoother and more intuitive. Changes to the objective points will include a new back path connecting Temple and Ruins, and adjustments to cover placements to facilitate better strategic options.

Changes to New Junk City

New Junk City will also be reworked to create a more fluid gameplay experience. The forward spawn runbacks will be shortened with the introduction of new upper paths, allowing players to return to the action more quickly. The Thunderdome area will be adjusted to improve accessibility, with changes to entrances and the addition of a new hallway that enhances movement options without compromising player safety. The overall design will focus on widening chokepoints and refining sightlines to support more dynamic engagements.

Gameplay Logic Adjustments

In addition to the physical changes to the maps, the selection logic for active control points will be modified. After the middle point is captured, the next control point will always be closer to the losing team's spawn. This adjustment aims to provide a fair advantage to the losing team and eliminate diagonal transitions that have caused player frustration in the past.
