Stadium Quick Play tests Open Queue with role limits
The October 6 experiment aims to shorten queues while a separate change cuts passive health from currency.
The experiment is limited to Quick Play
Stadium Quick Play changes to Open Queue in the October 6 update, with a required tank and limits on the other roles. Blizzard identifies the format as an experiment aimed at queue times, especially for Support players. It does not replace Stadium Competitive's format.
The same patch reduces the passive health granted by currency by half and changes several items affecting sustain. That second set of adjustments has a different purpose: giving offensive purchases more of a survivability tradeoff instead of allowing baseline bulk to grow as easily alongside damage investment.
Queue speed and build balance are separate tests
A shorter wait is useful, but the format also has to produce enjoyable matches once the lobby forms. Watch whether the role mix leaves clear responsibilities, whether players can adapt their selections and whether the queue improvement holds across different times of day. One unusually fast lobby is not enough to judge the experiment.
For builds, reassess the balance between survivability and offensive items rather than reusing a saved shopping order without checking its outcome. Less passive health can make positioning mistakes more expensive, while anti-sustain changes can alter which defensive investments remain valuable. The official notes list the item details and explain that Blizzard plans to monitor the effects. Keep feedback about the queue format distinct from feedback about a specific item's power.
