The Road to BlizzCon Runs Through These Four World Cup Groups
Sixteen national teams are locked into the Busan group stage, where eight places at the BlizzCon 2026 finals will be decided August 20-23.

Sixteen teams, eight tickets to Anaheim
The 2026 Overwatch World Cup field has reached its last stop before BlizzCon. Sixteen national teams will meet in Busan, South Korea, from August 20 through August 23, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the eight-team finals in Anaheim.
That makes every group-stage series part of the BlizzCon qualification race. The Busan stage uses four groups of four, and the teams that survive will move into a single-elimination bracket at BlizzCon on September 12 and 13.
The four World Cup groups
The July 14 draw placed the 2023 finalists and the teams that advanced through the 2026 online qualifiers into the following groups:
- Group A: China, United States, Sweden, Japan
- Group B: Saudi Arabia, Australia, Mexico, Great Britain
- Group C: Canada, Germany, Thailand, Spain
- Group D: France, South Korea, Denmark, Colombia
Group A carries immediate pressure
Group A brings together China and the United States, two countries with deep World Cup histories, alongside Sweden and Japan. China entered the draw as the 2023 runner-up, while the United States owns the 2019 title. With only two places available, there is little room for a slow opening series.
Japan and Sweden also arrived through different regional paths, which makes this more than a two-team group on paper. A single upset could change which former finalist reaches Anaheim.
The home stage belongs to South Korea
South Korea will play the decisive group stage in Busan after winning the first three Overwatch World Cups. France, Denmark, and Colombia complete Group D, giving the host nation a varied set of opponents before any possible BlizzCon run.
Saudi Arabia, the defending 2023 champion, anchors Group B. Group C is the only group without a previous World Cup champion, guaranteeing that at least two of Canada, Germany, Thailand, and Spain will reach the Anaheim finals.
What happens at BlizzCon
The eight qualifiers will play a single-elimination final bracket inside the Anaheim Convention Center Arena during BlizzCon 2026. One loss can end a country's run, so the Busan results will determine both who travels to California and the shape of the final championship field.
Blizzard has not yet filled in every broadcast detail for the Busan stage. The confirmed calendar leaves less than a month before the first group-stage matches begin.
