Three original maps reopened

Assault returned for a compact Quick Play Hacked window built around Temple of Anubis, Hanamura, and Volskaya Industries. The maps were not frozen in their original era: the test used the current hero roster and live balance environment.

That made the weekend more useful than a museum piece. Newer heroes entered spaces designed before they existed, while long-time players could test whether years of movement, range, and survivability changes altered the old two-capture-point rhythm.

Map voting kept the test focused

The playlist also used map voting, giving each lobby a direct say in which returning location it played. With only four days scheduled, the feature reduced the chance that a player would miss the map they specifically came back to see.

Blizzard presented the run as a limited test rather than a permanent restoration. Its short duration gave the team a concentrated look at participation and match behavior without placing Assault back into the regular Quick Play rotation.
