Unlocking Competitive Play

To participate in Stadium Competitive, new players must first secure 10 victories in Stadium Quick Play. This requirement is designed to help newcomers acclimate to the game before diving into the competitive environment. Additionally, the introduction of matchmaking rating (MMR) tracking in Quick Play will allow players to transition into Competitive mode more smoothly, as their MMR will carry over and assist in determining their initial rank.

Dynamic Rank System Explained

The competitive landscape in Stadium is undergoing a significant transformation with the implementation of a dynamic rank system. Unlike previous static values for Stadium Points, players' points will now fluctuate based on their current performance and predicted rank. For instance, if a player in the Novice tier has an MMR comparable to Elite players, they will experience a faster progression through the ranks. This system aims to minimize the grind associated with climbing to appropriate ranks and enhance the overall match quality.

Introducing Draft Mode

Another notable addition to Stadium Competitive is the new Draft Mode, which allows teams to make strategic hero selections at the start of matches. The drafting process will follow a randomized snake format, ensuring that tanks do not occupy the first selection spot to maintain fair matchups. Furthermore, mirror matchups will not be permitted, encouraging diverse team compositions and reducing the prevalence of static metas. The developers are keen to monitor the impact of this feature and welcome player feedback.

Matchmaking Improvements

To further enhance the competitive experience, grouping restrictions have been introduced based on player tiers. While there are no restrictions for players below Elite, those in higher tiers will face escalating limitations on how far apart they can group with teammates. For example, Pros can group within 15 divisions, All-Stars within 10, and Legends within just 5. This change is expected to improve matchmaking quality and ensure that players are matched with others of similar skill levels.
