The reset matched the wider relaunch
Season 1 reset Competitive ranks as Overwatch entered its new naming and release structure. The placement process gave the ladder a fresh baseline at the same time five heroes and broader role changes entered regular play.
Crimson Wolf became the season's competitive weapon treatment. Diamond-and-above players also had a Doomfist competitive skin to pursue, adding a hero-specific reward alongside the weapon progression.
High-rank recognition was also changing
Blizzard outlined rarer title presentation and dynamic Top 500 recognition, though the dynamic title feature was moved to Season 2. The direction was to make the highest ladder finishes more legible after the season ended.
The delayed feature did not change the immediate reset, but it clarified that Competitive rewards were being treated as a system rather than a one-season cosmetic drop. Rank, weapons, skins, and titles were all part of the same rebuild.
